District 207 High School students (Maine East, West & South) take an anonymous survey about their alcohol, tobacco and drug use and perceptions. Eighty percent or more fill out the survey and do it honestly.
Many teens say Everyone lies on those surveys. Here are the facts though:
- We work with experts who design the surveys to detect false answers, by cross-checking answers and data. If the math doesn’t work, those surveys are considered invalid and are not included in our statistics.
- For those who draw pictures on the Scantron answer sheet or tell us to get a life….they are considered invalid and are not used.
- Anyone who says they used a fictitious drug….invalid.
- Each year a new 9th grade class arrives and a 12th grade class leaves, but the data has remained statistically constant. That means that all students in all three high schools would have to lie the same way every year.
Invalid surveys (each year it varies from 7%-19%) are thrown away and not used in the data that you see in our posters around the schools.
So… THE FACTS COME FROM YOU!
