MCYAF and the Park Ridge Police joined forces to operate a Parent Patrol on weekends throughout 2011. The goal of the Parent Patrol is to keep teens safe, with particular attention to curbing underage drinking.
In-person training for Parent Patrol volunteers was initially provided in March 2011. This online training video is required for all new volunteers and includes information about the role and responsibilities of Parent Patrol members, why underage drinking is harmful and dangerous, current community efforts to address teen alcohol use, and background on underage drinking prevalence and attitudes.
Parent Patrol volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and commit to be available one or two weekends from 10 p.m-2 a.m. on Friday or Saturday nights. Volunteers will have the option to join a police officer on patrol in a squad car or remain on call and accessible to join an officer at an incident scene, as needed.
Note: The training video is rather large (300 MB) and progressively streamed to
your computer, so please be patient. It runs approximately 59 minutes.
The Parent Patrol sets clear expectations that teens will abide by the law and avoid drinking alcohol and attending parties where drinking occurs.
